Vocation

Vocation discernment is an exciting, unique, and grace-filled journey.  Meet a few of our sisters here.

“We must always be ready to do God’s will. Do not be afraid because God is merciful.”
(Mother M.T. DeVincenti, Foundress)

Q:  Do I have a vocation to the religious life?

A: Central to a genuine vocation is the God-given desire to live like Christ: poor, chaste and obedient.  From this arises:
·         Longing for a deeper prayer life and relationship with God
·         Compassion for the suffering people of the world
·         Desire to give your life, whole and entire, in service to those poor and in need.

Q: How do I know if this life is for me?

A:  It is impossible to be sure without experiencing it.  That’s why there are many steps along the way to allow you to reevaluate your decision.  First, you may wish to consult with a spiritual director, a parish priest or a sister to sort out your own desires and the Lord’s will for you.   The postulancy is a one year program of exploration where you are gradually introduced in to the spiritual and communal life of the congregation.  This is followed by the novitiate, at two year period that provides for the sister’s spiritual growth as she prepares to make a vowed commitment to the Lord.

Q: Why do you choose to live in community instead of out in the world with the people you serve?

A:  Our Foundress says that community is our home, where the sisters truly support one another through their prayer, shared love for Christ, and time spent together enjoying each other’s company at meals and recreation.  From there, nurtured and strengthened by God and one another, we go out to serve the world and share the love that we experience together.

Q: Will I have the courage necessary to follow the religious life?

A:  No one has the courage on her own. But a religious vocation is a gift from God, and your response flows from your FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE of the Lord.  Only with God’s help in the deepening of your own spirituality will you discover the profound meaning of dedicating your life to Christ.
